Vilkaviškis Bus Station and Square: Intermodal Building and new Gateway to the City. The project for the new bus terminal was based on two main ideas: the need to provide the city with a new building capable of meeting the high daily demand for transportation and services, and the desire to break away from the sovietstyle tradition that considered stations only as single-purpose buildings, with no attention given to the public spaces they could create or the external surroundings. The first step of the studio was to understand the peculiarities of the project site in order to create a building that was not detached from the existing logic but could elegantly integrate into it. The abundance of trees was interpreted as one of its most recognizable elements and a source of great design inspiration, to the extent that they were integrated within a volume that develops and articulates around them.

The No.491 (May /June 2023) is dedicated to Mobility infrastructures. 8 pages are dedicated for presentation of the Vilkaviškis bus station project. Text by Valerio Perna.
